Thnaksgiving Blessing Celebrating Grateful

When you think of November what is the first thing that comes to mind? Turkey? Shopping? While we all love a great family dinner and an even better sale, November is also a time to reflect on the things we are grateful for; a time to give thanks and show kindness to those around us.

We have some great community programs available to help our community with food insecurity. At the Lighthouse, operated by the Waterville Area Soup Kitchen, community members can stop in for a nutritious meal and have a place to socialize during the lunch hour. We are also lucky to have the Waterville Area Food Bank that works diligently throughout the year to provide assistance to local families. This year, the Alfond Youth & Community Center is also bringing back their Community Holiday dinner, where all are invited to enjoy a delicious turkey dinner.

Tired of shaving? Join in on No Shave November! Each year people put down their razors with the goal to raise cancer awareness. The time and money you normally spend on shaving can in turn be put into educating on cancer prevention and aiding those who are currently fighting the disease.

With the holidays fast approaching, it is always nice to spend time together with your family.  Don’t miss out on this year’s Festival of Trees. Here you can take a look at some beautiful tree displays donated by area businesses, enter to win them, and support the Alfond Youth & Community Center food insecurity and work ready programs. Love the festival, maybe you would like to volunteer your time? The Parade of Lights is also back this year! With a new route to include Winslow and Waterville, the parade is bound to be a hit.

November 13th happens to be World Kindness Day. There are so many ways we can volunteer our time and resources to help our community. Even the smallest gesture may mean the world to someone around you. How are you planning to reach out and show kindness in your community?
