September Around Waterville: Coming Together

September always feels like a fresh start. School is back in session, cooler mornings are beginning to roll in, and there is plenty happening around Waterville. This month’s events highlight a few of the things that make Central Maine feel like home—local traditions, familiar places, and neighbors coming together.

September First Friday Block Party

Downtown Waterville will kick off the month with the September First Friday Block Party on Friday, September 4, from 4–7 p.m.

Main Street will be closed from Temple Street to Spring Street for an evening of music, food, local vendors, carriage rides, chalk art, and hands-on activities. Most activities are free, making it a fun way to spend an evening downtown while supporting local artists, organizations, and businesses.

50 Years of Common Ground

The 50 Years of Common Ground exhibit will be on display at the Ticonic Gallery from September 4–30.

The exhibit celebrates the 50th anniversary of the Common Ground Country Fair through five decades of its memorable posters. The collection highlights Maine’s connection to farming, sustainability, local craftsmanship, and community involvement.

Even if you have never attended the fair, the exhibit offers an interesting look at a Maine tradition that has continued to grow while staying true to its local roots.

Neighbors Helping Neighbors

The Community Collaborative Support and Education Event will be held Saturday, September 12, from noon–3 p.m. at Head of Falls.

Hosted by the Waterville Police Department, the event brings local organizations together to share information about housing, health, education, and other community resources. Everyone is welcome, and free food will be provided by Rita’s Catering and the Waterville Area Soup Kitchen.

It is a great opportunity to learn more about the organizations working throughout our area and the services available to local individuals and families.
