Happy Valentines Day

February – the month of love, snowdrifts, and frosty adventures! Whether you’re a die-hard hockey fan, a romantic at heart, or just looking to embrace the winter wonderland, this month has something for everyone. So, put on your warmest scarf, grab a mug of hot cocoa, and let’s dive into all the exciting things this month has to offer.

It is time to bundle up and dust off your ice auger. With the colder weather it is a great time to hit the lakes and enter a local ice fishing derby! Whether you’re a seasoned angler or a curious newbie, Snow Pond and China Lake are both offering great events to get you out on the ice and get those flags!

February is also a great time to lace up your skates and cheer on your favorite local team. From youth leagues to adult pick-up games, there’s always a puck flying somewhere in our town.  You won’t want to miss this year’s Maine Pond Hockey Classic! Join the fun at Snow Pond Center for the Arts for a weekend of hockey and fun all to benefit the Alfond Youth & Community Center!

Here is what Central Maine Toyota’s Matt Loubier has to say about this great event:

“I’ve been playing in the The Maine Pond Hockey Classic for years and there is no other charity event like it! Who in their right mind would go out in bone chilling weather (snow, wind, blizzard etc…) to slap a puck around? Surprisingly, there’s quit a few of us that enjoy the sport enough to suffer through it, fans too! In all fairness, Patrick Guerette and the Alfond Youth Center have done an amazing job over the years. Each year, they either change or add something to enhance the experience for the players, spectators, and everyone involved. Planning such an event this time of year is not easy when you have to count on the weather to cooperate and somehow, no matter the conditions it’s a great turn out and fun had by all. Thank you to everyone that makes this weekend a weekend many people look forward to!”

Of course, we can’t talk about February without mentioning Valentine’s Day. But this year, let’s ditch the pressure and focus on celebrating love in all its forms. Show your appreciation for your partner, your friends, your family, and even yourself! While you’re busy planning your Valentine’s Day surprises, remember to show some love to your local businesses.

Here are some ideas to get you started:

Blooming with Love: Ditch the mass-produced bouquets and head to your favorite local flower shop. They’ll have unique and beautiful arrangements that you won’t find anywhere else, and you’ll be supporting a small business owner who pours their heart and soul into their craft.

Sweeten the Deal: Skip the grocery store candy aisle and visit your local chocolatier or candy store. They’ll have handcrafted chocolates, locally-sourced treats, and decadent goodies that will tantalize your taste buds and warm your sweetheart’s heart.

Enjoy a romantic dinner at a local restaurant: Make reservations at a locally-owned restaurant. You’ll get a more intimate and personalized dining experience, and you’ll be supporting a business that’s important to your community.
