Community Events: 42nd Annual Polar Plunge & Maine Maple Sunday

March in Waterville isn’t just about great service – it’s also a time to get involved and celebrate the events that make this community so special.

• The Polar Plunge: On March 22nd at the Oakland Boat Launch, brave participants will dive into the icy waters of Messalonskee Lake. Sponsored by the Alfond Youth and Community Center, this annual event raises funds to combat food insecurity in the area. Whether you’re taking the plunge or cheering on others, it’s a thrilling way to support a great cause.
• Maine Maple Sunday: Taking place March 22nd-23rd, this event invites visitors to explore local sugarhouses, sample fresh maple syrup, and learn about the production process. It’s a perfect opportunity to enjoy the changing season, savor delicious syrup, and support local farmers and producers.

What’s the most rewarding part of working in car sales for you? “It sounds cheesy, I know, but the most rewarding part of my job is seeing how happy people are when they’re getting ready to take off in their new vehicle. Seeing one of those uncontrollable, ear-to-ear smiles on my client’s face is what makes it all worth it. Having a referral come in also hits different. Knowing that someone I helped in the past had a great enough experience to trust me with their friend or family member is always a rewarding feeling.”

What advice would you give someone who’s feeling overwhelmed by the car-buying process? “Just remember that every salesperson is unique, and all dealers aren’t the same. If you had a bad experience in the past, that doesn’t mean it will happen again. Like all professions, there are some people who are ethical and do their job well, and there are some who don’t care and do it for all the wrong reasons. If you go to the right place and work with the right person, buying a car can be a very simple and stress-free experience.”

Do you have a dream car you’ve always wanted to own? “So, I have my “realistic” dream car, and my “not so realistic” dream car. Realistically, I would love a Citadel Durango with the Hemi. Red Oxide paint with black guts. Unrealistically, I would get into a Rolls Royce Wraith, all murdered out, with peanut butter guts.”

Would you rather dive into the Polar Plunge or treat yourself to some Maine maple syrup? “I’ve actually always wanted to do the Polar Plunge. For 60 seconds at the end of each shower, I turn the hot water completely off and stand under the cold water. Maybe next year will be my first plunge!”
